Red Pike turns White!

Chris, a friend from London was up in the Lakes, and I decided to join him for a walk south of Buttermere. We were late starting, as my car broke down close to home (doh! 🙄 ) (it seems I ran out of petrol; but why did the warning light not come on?) so had to curtail our plans……….. we headed for the area south of Buttermere as from Aspatria we could see these were the only tops not plastered with snow clouds.

The route up to Red Pike

Up to Bleaberry Tarn and Red Pike all we had to contend with was a cold wind and the odd patch of ice on the path, but as we progressed along the top of Chapel Crag and over High Stile, the snow showers had reached us from the east……

It was getting darker as we dropped down Gamlin End, but caught some great views on the way………..

We finished as it got dark along the side of the lake; all in all a great short day out.
