Teesdale – the land that time forgot

Pete phoned up as I was leaving for a walk up Teesdale. I still wasn’t feeling too good as my cough is still lingering. Passing through Middleton-in-Teesdale and beyond High Force a relatively gentle circular walk started in Forest-in-Teesdale.

Teesdale is a rather forgotten valley that leads to Alston. The River Tees flows, and today it was flowing well.

It was so, so windy that I was struggling against it. I almost gave up as I was feeling awful. The water was loud and my headache was getting worse. Wrapping up (as Mum’s want you to be if you have a cold!) I kept going, following the river upstream. Some of the path was in the water and some sections were along raised boardwalks.

Eventually a path junction was reached that took us over Moor House – Upper Teesdale National Nature Reserve.

It’s a wild, but fascinating place.

On the way back to the car White Force is passed.

It turned cold so we got back to the car as soon as we could. Pippa started hobbling (I thought) and it was only when we got home that she made her injury obvious.

If you want an area that doesn’t see too many people, head to Teesdale.

UPDATE
It turns out that Pippa has broken a claw and it looks painful.

Poorly paw - ouch

  1. Oh No!!! Kelda says that is going to be a really painful foot 😥 She says the only cure is fresh steak washed down with a bowl of real ale (Theakstons Winter Warmer is good for the pain and encourages claw re-growth) get well soon Pippa!
