Blue sky and very cold. Low lying short routes were required. We decided upon Hutton Roof Crags. Another limestone area I had not been to before.

By the time we got there, a few threatening clouds had appeared, but not so threatening as to stop us. We parked up and took the path towards the highest point from where we had the most fantastic views back across to the Lake District. The tiny crag was a little further on, in a dip, but not entirely sheltered from the cold wind.

The routes were short, and despite carrying all my gear there, I decided a bit of soloing would be more fun than tackling anything too hard.

Soon we were all at it. Which made it hard to know just what routes we were all climbing, being free to climb just about anywhere soloing without ropes!

We finished early – I had some shopping to do back in Ambleside. There’s still plenty left for us to do on a another visit…
