Bird Bans and Stone Circles

Saturday started out beautifully, but cold, so we made the long journey west to try some new low lying destinations near Eskdale.

After much deliberation, we chose Branthrake Crag, only to find the Bird Ban notice at the start of the track. At least we hadn’t walked very far. However, by the time we did get back to car and spent twenty minutes reading the guide book looking for an alternative venue, the clouds had come in thick and fast and it was pretty cold.

We decided to abandon climbing for the day.

On the way home we took a detour to see Swinside Stone Circle.

It’s pretty good, and Pete managed to get a mini route in!

We also went to Ulverston to try and see the new Laurel and Hardy statue, but it was busy, so we didn’t stop.

  1. Hmmm, bouldering on stone circles, not sure what the ethics police would say about that, more  than  I suspect.

Still, there’s a niche in the guidebook market for you Pete ❗

    1. Yes, you are right, it is a bit irresponsible, but I couldn’t stop myself! 😐
However, I’m not the first; I seem to remember that some of the stones at Avebury were pulled down and used (recycled) to build the houses (or was it the church) in the village!!!
