The copper project; Part 8 – epilogue

It’s been on my mind for a while that I never finished off ‘The Copper Project’ series of posts properly, and hence just over two years after the great reveal (our wedding), I thought I would complete the series.

Following the last blog on this subject, the only remaining job was to cook the large square sachertorte, the two small sachertortes and the extra sachertorte, kept in the back just in case! This was a mammoth baking day. The oven was turned on at 0800 and wasn’t turned off until 20:00. We got through 18 chocolate bars, 24 eggs and a vast amount of ground almonds. The cakes and the cream stream made it to Wem safely (after a few near cake slides on the roundabouts) and all was running well when the guests arrived. We’d had a few cream spillages the previous day during testing and hence the trusty duck tape was employed to keep the pipes firmly in the cream reservoir under the table! Duck tape is the hydrogeologists best friend!

One by one the guests arrived in the hall, we welcomed them and then they all seemed to disappear. I turned around, and there they all were staring at the cream stream!

The sink

The cream sink at the base of the waterfall worked surprisingly well. We were worried at first that the cream may whip, but thankfully, with the addition of a small amount of milk to the cream, it stayed liquid, despite being pumped around the waterfall for the entire night!

Many people asked where the cream was coming from....

The problem of covering the base of the cream stream was a tricky one. The pertruding copper flower stalks made any normal table cloth impossible. Therefore we decided to go for a subtle lily pad look. I appliqued around 10’s of lily leaves, but Richard thought they resembled Pacman…. so for good measure, I added a ‘Blinky’ under the elevated cake where only very observant people would notice. We obviously added lots of frogs as well; we like frogs.

The cake itself was absolutely delicious 🙂

  1. Rachel thought she could sneak this one in by posting it with an early date, but she hadn’t counted on my Twitter feed reporting it! 😉
Love the red ghost! I didn’t know he was called Blinky, what are the other ghosts names? packman

  2. I’m not surprised all the guests were riveted. Perhaps you could rent out the equipment for other weddings; it’s definitely got the wow factor!
