Windermere Airshow 2009

It was the first day of the Windermere Airshow, and I’d volunteered to stand and be sociable on the SARDA Lakes stand in the event arena. It was a good opportunity for Mil to meet lots of children and chat about training.

This was interspersed with the odd aeroplane but unfortunately Roge (& Beinn) and Ian (& Vinny) had to leave as there was a call out with Langdale & Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team

I also came across a big bird…but not sure about the ethics of this

A lovely lady called Pauline came and said hello with her pet Guinea Pig (sorry I forgot to take a photograph). We didn’t have any cakes so I couldn’t take a photo for all you cakephiles.

The day finished off with the flypast of the amazing Vulcan bomber.

It took nearly an hour to get out of the car park 🙁

  1. The Vulcan bomber looks great – such a weirdly amazing looking plane! I think I heard it at one point; we were over on Great Gable… But I guess it’s not quite as impressive when you remind yourself what it was designed for – mass murder! 😡

    1. Pete; as cold war equipment the Vulcan (and the other V force planes) can be viewed in a historical context as a way to avoid mass murder. Discuss.

(Without being told off for getting into politics 😆 )

  2. You chose the best day for it – I wonder how wet everyone is getting today.

I love air-shows… I just have to forget about war and bombs and killing people. The planes are amazing. And the red arrows are fantastic. I wonder if anyone will see them today brrrr!

The question is tho’: Why did Pauline have her guinea pig with her? ❓

  3. I watched the Vulcan display sat in glorious sunshine not far from the summit of Harrison Stickle, where Terry Kenny and quite a few others were checking out the crag for the next Langdale guide. Shouldn’t think Harrisons has had so many people on it in one day (or year?) in a long time 😉
Incidentally, the rescue went past me at a rate of knots, don’t know if it was the guys from the airshow. I was very relieved to find it was none of our party hurt. I heard from someone that it was a knackered ankle, hope it was nothin more serious. 🙁
