Twelve Victoria Sponges

It’s great having a birthday on or very near a weekend… your birthday can very easily turn into birthmanydays. 🙂

Anyway, on Friday, my actual birthday, I had to work, but not too hard.

On Saturday, the sun was out but the wind was very cold. Plan A was to take a trip up to Borrowdale. We went to Quayfoot Buttress and found quite a few newly fallen trees at the bottom of the crag, with the easier routes covered in mud and debris. This must have been the result of the recent strong winds. It was far too cold to tackle the steeper harder routes, so we abandoned that for Plan B.

Plan B was go to Scout Scar, much closer to home. We should have realised this was a far better option. Cold and windy at the top, but as soon as you drop down you’re protected and in a glorious sun trap.

We didn’t stay long. Although it’s bolted, the routes are still a bit steep and fingery for me…. and I had cakes to make.

Birthday cakes and flowers

You’ll notice there are only 11 in the picture. The chef’s able assistant had to try one to make sure they were good.

Mini birthday cakes! Lots of them!
