Mini Ski Tour to Trient

Our last day of skiing before returning home to flooded and wind swept Blighty was a fun mini ski tour from the top of the lift system at Le Tour down to Trient…. The start was a simple twenty minutes of skinning up to the Col de Blame. From here we were, thanks to the previous days of heavy fresh snow, lucky enough to put in first tracks in the powder all the way down to Trient. However, it was a little worrying in places though as the route is essentially a drainage line, and therefore a perfect terrain-trap for slides of fresh snow from the high gully sides.

The return trip to Chamonix from Trient was a little trickier than normal as the train through the Col de Montets is still out of operation. The line upgrade was supposed to be finished before last year’s ski season! I guess only two years late is good for the French! So we caught three buses home: Trient to Vallorcine; the train replacement service from Vallorcine to Argentiere; and then the ski bus from Argentiere to Chamonix. It took a while! At least the initial wait in Trient was a comfortable one…
