A weekend in Snowdonia

Pete had multiple Climbers Club committee meetings this weekend in Llanberis so we packed the van and headed to North Wales on Saturday morning.

Whilst Pete was in his first meeting, I spent a leisurely afternoon with Keith and Fiona strolling around Padarn Lake and then drinking coffee in V12.

On Saturday night there was a buffet meal for all committee members and their partners in the Royal Victoria hotel, which is a great opportunity to spend a very sociable evening not talking about committee matters (hmmmmmm).

Anyway, we started the night off very well with gin and tonics, and it helped direct the conversation to all things gin.

Soon, as the night progressed, we saw more and more people coming back with the huge glasses. We ended the night off very well with more gin and tonics. Needless to say, we all had a very good time.

We’d parked our van in a very convenient spot. It was very cold, which was perhaps why Zac felt the need to sleep on our bed.

Sunday’s weather wasn’t as great Saturday, but I needed to work off the calories from all those g&ts last night. I decided I would try to get to the top of Snowdon, even though I could see that is was shrouded in cloud. I thought I would be excruciatingly slow, but I found that, despite the pain, I was overtaking everyone. It seems that although I think I have done nothing for the past few months I must still be at least a little bit fit.

As we got nearer to the summit the clouds got thicker and we soon reached the snow line. Zac had a lot of fun shoving his face into snowdrifts.

The summit was completely closed in, so I took a very quick snap before cautiously scrambling down the steps. I actually don’t remember being at the summit before. I must have done, but I don’t remember the steps.

It was very cold up there, so we descended as fast as I could through the snow, and eventually back into the sun.
