Dodd – superdirect…. ish

700 years is a long time …… we hadn’t even started climbing then (well maybe Terry had). Anna and I visited Burgh by Sands where King Edward 1 died on 7th July 1307 for the anniversary commemorations. I wonder if he died because of the torrential downpour????

We arrived as the band were high-tailing it into the marquee. It was such a shame. A soggy field, with everyone doing their best to enjoy themselves. We didn’t stay long, but felt we’d done our bit to commemorate the death of an English King who died here in Cumbria on his way to defeat the Scots.
We dried out and headed for Hesket Newmarket, to eat and drink like kings for the evening at The Old Crown, with our friends Richard and Mary.
Sunday…. a late start and a wander up Dodd, a top close to Skiddaw and a tremendous viewpoint of the Northern Lakes.
From scotland in the north to The Langdales and Scafell…. what a panorama. Only one way to complete the day…. the teashop, Mmmmmmmmmmmmm.
On the way up Dodd

  1. You’ve been packing it in the activities despite the weather!

Hmm, what is that implement being brandished in the index picture? A sword? Or, is it the knife used to carve up the roast?
