Sterling Adventures

My mum and dad came to visit this weekend and as the forecast was reasonable (not raining) we decided to take a trip to Leighton Moss to check out the birds. Pete was excited, and then he realised we’d be looking at the feathered variety…

At the feeding area we saw a variety of garden birds, including a female bullfinch, oh and a rat cleaning up the seeds the birds had dropped - it had a very glossy coat. We then went on to three of the five hides on offer, and armed with binoculars and bird guide book we saw quite a lot of water birds - nothing rare or hugely exciting, but it was nice to be able to recognise most of them: Teal; Mallard; Gladwall; Coot; Moorhen; Heron; Black Headed Gull. Was also saw two groups of fantastic red deer.

After a spot of lunch we decided to take a walk along the coast so we drove over to neighbouring Silverdale. The men the did the ‘man thing’ and skimmed stones, the women did the ‘woman thing’ and watched admiringly (yeah right!).

We got home in time for visits from Dave and Fiona (very proud of their exploits) and Rachel and Richard (also very proud of their exploits), and lashing of tea and biscuits.
