Trying to keep fit and get Pippa tired, I thought I’d take a bike ride up Lady Anne’s Way from ‘The Thrang’ in Mallerstang.

I’ve been up before with Pete & Leatitia but the weather was awful and we only got to Hellgill before turning back when the thought of tea and cakes was discussed. This time the weather was perfect.

It is a lovely part of the world, with great views up and down Mallerstang (which is also a lovely area to walk in), across to Swarth Fell and Wild Boar Fell.

The initial climb up is steep, but once up at the Watercut benchmark (one of many along the River Eden) it levels out and provides a fine bike ride along the ancient highway.

(sorry about the poor quality on my cheapo phone but I forgot my camera  )

The occasional gate, stream crossing and building provide interesting places to stop and admire the view and take a breather.

Anyone want to join me next time? (they can pose at the watercut rather than Pippa)
