It started with glorious sunshine but the weather turned a little and the cloud level lowered.
So I thought it might be good opportunity to visit a couple of the lower Wainwrights that I need to visit.
The first on my list was Arnison Crag just above Patterdale. It was a nice gentle walk gaining just less than 300 m, but with some lovely views across to Ullswater, Sheffield Pike, Birkhouse Moor, Birks, and Glenridding Dodd.
After returning to my car, a quick trip up Kirkstone Pass and parking in Troutbeck, I headed up Wansfell (Baystones), in the thought that I’d actually not visited the true Wainwright, but getting to the wall, it all came flooding back to me, and I had been there on the 2nd Jan 2006. Never mind, it was quite a nice walk.
I headed for Ambleside for a sandwich and some gear shopping while Pippa got lots of attention in The Climbers’ Shop.
I had planned to go to Loughrigg and Black Crag by parking at Skelwith Bridge – but I felt a little jaded as I’d been out on Friday night walking in the rain and had a late night with friends at the Acoustic Tearoom watching Colum Sands.
