La Crémerie

We got up late, of course, but we didn’t have plans for a big day. We had decided to check out the ice at La Crémerie which is only a short walk from the Grand Montets lift station.

We took to shuttle bus from the centre of Chamonix up to Grand Montets – the usual pack ’em in like sardines fun – and by the time we arrived we realised we had forgotten the guide book and the map. It didn’t matter, it wasn’t difficult to find.

We walked up the road towards the gorge, passing the most wonderful aromas coming from the Restaurant Crémerie, then passed the helicopter pad, and onto the track that took us up to the ice routes.

There were a couple of teams there already, but fortunately the best line was free. It might have been Chantilly, or it might not have. It didn’t matter what it was called. It was a fun bit of vertical ice.

But the day was well below freezing, so we decided one route was enough. We headed back down to enjoy a hot chocolate in the restaurant :yum: :yum: before heading back to base.
