We got up late, of course, but we didn’t have plans for a big day. We had decided to check out the ice at La Crémerie which is only a short walk from the Grand Montets lift station.
We took to shuttle bus from the centre of Chamonix up to Grand Montets – the usual pack ‘em in like sardines fun – and by the time we arrived we realised we had forgotten the guide book and the map. It didn’t matter, it wasn’t difficult to find.

The road to La Crémerie
We walked up the road towards the gorge, passing the most wonderful aromas coming from the Restaurant Crémerie, then passed the helicopter pad, and onto the track that took us up to the ice routes.
There were a couple of teams there already, but fortunately the best line was free. It might have been Chantilly, or it might not have. It didn’t matter what it was called. It was a fun bit of vertical ice.

But the day was well below freezing, so we decided one route was enough. We headed back down to enjoy a hot chocolate in the restaurant
before heading back to base.

Hey Pete, the ice looks good……… I bet its good to get the axes swinging again (dont forget to pack them!!)
I can remember a fantastic soup in there!!!
The cremerie restaurant is great
Unfortunately I also have some memories of the heli-pad
I won’t forget – looking forward to Scotland…
Does the restaurant serve cake
Yes; we failed there didn’t we!
I’m worried about how long those nice, unfilled white teeth will last with all these cakes though
Ah, well that’s perhaps why we thought better of it…
Mind you, the chocolat chaud we had was very sweet!
Pete looks frozen stiff in the first shot
that ice route looks like one in the middle of canmore junkyards (where it is presently minus 42C
)
All ice routes look pretty much the same Terry!
