A run around Dalmahoy hotel

Stuck up near Edinburgh with work (which – BTW – sucks! 😉 ) I’ve been looking for ways to occupy myself and take advantage of the long Scottish summer evenings… Especially to help combat the effects of hotel and fast food; too much of which has significant lard building capabilities without enough exercise. 🙁

My hotel, although only eight miles outside Edinburgh, is in an amazing country side location and has an attractive golf course attached. As I don’t play golf, I thought a good way to explore the estate would be to run around the perimeter of the course. There’s a short “jogging trail” along one side of the estate but it’s forbidden to run beyond that across the course – I suppose there’s a risk that runners might get a golf ball in the head, or more likely, they don’t want to distract the fat American golfers from their game. However, I asked the hotel concierge if anyone would notice or mind me running around the estate perimeter later in the day after work. He said “who’s going to notice?”, I took that to be as good as a nod and a wink. 🙂 But I still avoided the greens in particular for fear of being shouted (or shot 😮 ) at by the green keepers!

They say a game of golf is a great way to ruin a good walk; well that has to apply to a run too doesn’t it?

  1. We spent a nice weekend there a couple of years ago for James & Kirsty’s wedding – guess what, the father of the bride is keen on golf! And now his son-in-law is too.

Ian and I did that run before the wedding I think. We definitely did it before breakfast the day after the wedding, to work up an appetite: is the breakfast still as good? Ian could not believe his eyes.

Sadly th weather here has not been conducive to post-work jogging. (I get put off far too easily!)

    1. Not sure if the breakfasts are as good as when you were here – but I’d guess they are as they’re pretty standard hotel buffet affairs. Although I only ever have two weetabix and a glass of orange juice… :good:

  2. I hope this “health post” doesn’t mark a change of emphasis in content 🙄

Where are the pictures of the cakes that are bringing you to such dramatic measures ❓

  3. Maybe pictures of the fast food would be more suitable. I am also working away from home … I went for a less beautiful run tonight which led me along some country lanes … and then I found this hill that was perfect for a hill session, so I ran up it 8 times (and down) and then continued. I found a footpath which led in approximately the right direction – then after nettles, ragwort, a very dodgy stile and very wet, horizontal grass I arrived at a road much further away that I anticipated. I continued and thankfully found my way back to the B+B – which is by no means a castle!

  4. I think we had the posh breakfast, which was inclusive. This was lucky as when I added up what I’d had for breakfast it came to £46.00!!

    1. Yeah, I can pick from kippers, salmon, full Scottish (aka English 😉 ), pretty much anything with my inclusive deal too. But like I say, I just have cereal. :good:
