Stuck up near Edinburgh with work (which – BTW – sucks! ;-) ) I’ve been looking for ways to occupy myself and take advantage of the long Scottish summer evenings… Especially to help combat the effects of hotel and fast food; too much of which has significant lard building capabilities without enough exercise. :-(

My hotel, although only eight miles outside Edinburgh, is in an amazing country side location and has an attractive golf course attached. As I don’t play golf, I thought a good way to explore the estate would be to run around the perimeter of the course. There’s a short “jogging trail” along one side of the estate but it’s forbidden to run beyond that across the course – I suppose there’s a risk that runners might get a golf ball in the head, or more likely, they don’t want to distract the fat American golfers from their game. However, I asked the hotel concierge if anyone would notice or mind me running around the estate perimeter later in the day after work. He said “who’s going to notice?”, I took that to be as good as a nod and a wink. :-) But I still avoided the greens in particular for fear of being shouted (or shot  ) at by the green keepers!

Dalmahoy Golf Course

They say a game of golf is a great way to ruin a good walk; well that has to apply to a run too doesn’t it?
