Pre-rendezvous run-around

If you haven’t noticed, Richard and I have been running sections of the Bob Graham Round (albeit mostly in horrendous weather conditions). Saturday saw us panting around the route of the first section from Keswick to Threlkeld. This section contains a couple of the largest climbs on the entire route and takes in Skiddaw, Great Calva and Blencathra. We completed it in 4 hours, the time required for a 23 hr 22 min BG round. We’d started running at about 11.30 and neglected to eat lunch and only carried one banana and a few cereal bars, so perhaps that’s why it felt like pretty hard work. It certainly felt like hardwork in comparison to the second section that we ran at the beginning of May. Anyway, given that daylight hours are slowly declining and that a bit of extra speed and endurance training wouldn’t go a miss (for me anyway), we decided that another year of training before attempting the round would be a good plan. Watch this space. We might be calling on you all to support us in various ways (not necessarily running) next June.

    1. We might take you up on that offer … I’m thinking May next year. I’m currently on a mission to learn to run downhill quickly on the local slag heap!
