The Met Office’s Yellow Weather Warning – “Persistent and occasionally heavy rain is expected, leading to likely event totals of around 50 to 100mm over western high ground. The public should be aware of standing water issues and the possibility of localised flooding.” – brought the perfect test weather for Go Outdoors’ waterproof jackets…

Laetitia checking out some North Face waterproof clothing...
Over the years I’ve collected many waterproof jackets, not because I like spending money (which of course I do) and not because I like having lots of jackets to choose from (which if you looked inside my wardrobe you might think I do as well!!). But mainly because quite often you don’t know how well a jacket will perform until you’ve used it. After years of honing these requirements and spending skills I have a couple of key things I look for:
- Slim fitting
- No excessive trim or pockets
I chose the North Face Resolve waterproof jacket because it’s very neat. No excess anything and the hood folds neatly away into the collar. I chose a particularly unpractical colour for the kind of outdoor activity I get up to normally – Ivory! But it’s lovely and I thought it would look really smart for work.

The North Face Women's Resolve Waterproof Jacket
The jacket has a mesh liner which gives an extra layer of warmth on our cooler summer rainy days, and a comfy brushed collar lining.

All dry in here!
As usual Go Outdoors seems to be one of the cheapest on-line stores, they always send the item really quickly, and if your total purchase is over £70 you get free delivery.

So is this an ad? Did they give you it free?
The issue I have with waterproof jackets like that for normal daywear is that your legs get wet. So I recently invested in a nice long Rohan Globetrotter mac – and wore it today as it was monsooning at 8 am. (PS Sadly, I had to buy it
, but at least I got a massive discount in the last sale
)
Well, I suppose there was a small incentive and I would’t normally just write about a jacket – not much of an adventure blog. But needs must.
And just to be fair…. I did a bit more googling and I have actually now found this jacket at the same price on another site, but with free postage. It pays to shop around.
Hose pipe test required!
No hosepipe required… we are having a LOT of rain and a LOT of wind today. Actually, I think a dry suit my be the most appropriate thing to wear today.
of course, Tish can make any old jacket look stylish!
I bet it wouldn’t look so good on half the visitors to keswick
Too kind
I did wear it to Keswick on Friday and I felt all wrong when I went to Needlesport. Not half rufty tufty enough!!
Goes really well with that fab green Fat Face top!
