The Langdale Half Marathon has a bit of a reputation – it includes serious hills. But it does mean that any other Half should feel relatively easy!
Sadly, the day did not start well.
1. I forgot my contact lenses – though luckily I found I had my emergency glasses; they are an old presecription but at least I could see where I was going. Or would have been able to except that:
2. The weather forcast was for sunshine – but in fact the rain was tanking down;

Looking a bit unenthusiastic before the start
3. Emergency glasses do not have Elton John-style windscreen wipers. On the plus side, I did not get distracted by views: there weren’t any!

I'll warm up once I start running!
4. Started with an aching arch – never mind, as other things start to hurt, you forget whatever the previous pain was….
Somewhat to my surprise, as you can see from the following photo I actually enjoyed the whole thing, once I had got used to water dripping off my nose, chin, elbows… After the first few minutes I could not have got any wetter.

And of course I have yet another T-shirt to add to my collection.

Well done for even starting in such horrible weather. Was Ian in the cake shop keeping dry until you returned?
He was in the Stickle Barn pub! But ventured out in time to take the finish photo
Congratulations Anna, a half marathon with serious hills and rain “tanking down” (another new expression in my “rain collection”) is quite a performance! Hope you had some cakes afterwards, you certainly deserved them.
Yeah, the Brits are like the Eskimos, except they have dozens of ways to describe rain not snow…
BUGGER!!!
Just looked at the results of the half marathon and realised that Anna WON her class (on the day I thought she’d come second) We left before prize giving..
A total failure of the support team
Doh. Well, I guess one dosen’t take part for the prizes.
You’re right… it’s for the GLORY of the applause!!!!
… and the fact that you can eat lots and lots of cake and not get lardy.
Clap, Clap, Clap, Clap, Clap, Clap, Clap, Clap!
Hey mister web master, we need a clap smiley.
