Christmas came early this year when I was asked to check out this Phantom 0 Women’s sleeping bag from mountain hardwear sleeping bags.

Ooooh, I first thought when I opened the package, my absolute favourite colour. It’s perfect already.
Fantastic, was my second thought, so light, and soft, and downy, and I can’t wait to snuggle in and get my head down.

Snug and warm

In I dived, curled up, and went to sleep…. well not quite. There were a few things to investigate before I decide it really is perfect, a few things, after years of sleeping bag experiences, I’ve found to be very important.

The zip – up, down, up, down, up in a hurry, down in even more of a hurry – pretty good. I can protect myself form the cold quickly, and I can escape quickly, without the zip catching every 3cm.

Hood – now where’s that toggle? Not bad. The hood fits snuggly and the toggle isn’t so big that when you roll over onto it you get a huge bruise. There’s even this ergonomic collar thing which keeps all the drafts out – very warm and cozy.

Velcro – I know, it’s magical stuff, and useful for closing down the hatches and keeping even more drafts out, but I hate it. It makes me cringe and the sharp corners always end up scratching my face. This bag has only a small piece of velcro, and when it’s not needed it can be covered by another lovely soft downy flap.

Pockets – well, actually, I’m not too bothered by pockets, it just means I’ll roll onto something and get more bruises, but this bag has two small ones, which might be useful one day.

So, it’s looking like the bag really is perfect. Did I mention the wonderful colour?

Here are some stats:
Insulation: Piumino 800 fill
Lining: 20D Nylon Taffeta
Shell: Superlight 15D Rip
Weight: 1.17kg
Length: Regular – 178cm

In case you felt the need to remind yourself what the sleeping bag is called?

Don’t be confused by the “0″ in the title. Being American, this is fahrenheit, so it really is a 4 season bag for minus big numbers.

Very happy in my new sleeping bag
