We grabbed a cheap flight to Geneva and took the opportunity to survey the damage caused by the strong winds (nearly 80mph in the valley bottom) that passed through Chamonix last weekend.
Luckily we didn’t have too much damage, only a little cosmetic fixes required to the balcony, which we completed on Sunday. The main damage seemed to be the satellite dishes and some of the roof that now lay in a rubble below our window. Well, that’s nothing we can fix, so we only hope the repair bill won’t be too much.
Anyway, that left plenty of time to get in some climbing.
Unfortunately the forecast wasn’t great, with scattered showers, but we could grab a few routes between downpours.
On Saturday we drove over to Contamine and checked out some slabs.
Stuck on holds!?!
On Sunday we dodged the showers by going to La Joux – some smaller slabs.
For a treat that night we decided to visit the Micro Brasserie de Chamonix – MBC. We had the most amazing burger, one that possible rivals the American!

And on Monday we went to Barberine and Vallorcine – more slabs.

Yep, I reckon these might well be the best tasting burgers in the world!
Well, they may at least be the best we’ve tasted anywhere in the world! 
Says something doesn’t it, having to go to France for the best tasting burgers! Perhaps the French deserve their reputation for cuisine, even American fast food cuisine?

Me and DP stopped at that micro-brewery in Chamonix couple of years ago, likewise after climbing at Vallorcine. I think it was founded by the same Canadians who opened Grissly Paw in Canmore. Let’s hope their prices are not the rip-off charged in Canmore
Do you know, a party of seven of us dined Grissly Paw last February and they added 17% ‘large group’ service charge
