While some people were doing crazy things like running for two days, we decided to go for a walk.

I wanted to take advantage of another beautiful late autumn day and take in the glorious views of the Lake District rather than have my face 2inches from a slab of rock, so I persuaded Pete that a fast paced walk with an occasional jog down hill would be good for our fitness.

We parked at Seathwaite. It was pretty busy, as usual, but once in the hills there didn’t seem to be many people around. We headed up towards Napes Needle thinking it would be fun to have a go at Needle Ridge, but in the end we just threaded the needle and scrambled up to the top of Great Gable.

The classic picture of Napes Needle.

Great views with the sun fairly low.

The memorial on top of Great Gable.

It was cold on top of Great Gable, but we had time for a cup of tea before we made our way down via Base Brown. The cake I made yesterday was calling so we took advantage of gravity and ran down to the car.

By the time we got home it was dark, quite cold and the clouds were building up. We thought of our hardy friends camping while we tucked into cake.
