I was supposed to be in Les Contamines today, enjoying some ski touring, but work commitments meant I had to postpone my departure. As consolation I went for a bit of a walk in the hills, this time without the heavy bag.

I parked at the ODG and headed towards The Band. I noticed a little deer in the field.

I headed up The Band and soon the path was covered in snow. I had my crampons in my bag, but with the heat of the sun the snow was quite soft and easy to negotiate. It was lovely to walk without a heavy bag and I soon got to the Three Tarns where right is Bowfell and left is Crinkle Crags. I chose Bowfell.

It was busy on top, with plenty of people stopping for a lunch break, so I carried on and decided to head to Scafell Pike.

Scafell Pike.

The sun was strong and there was no wind. It was just glorious up there. There were a few people around, but it wasn’t too busy. It was all very sociable as everyone was enjoying the fantastic weather and having fun negotiating the snow on the steep bits.

I put my crampons on for the steepest bit of the descent, but soon kicked them off between Broad Crag and Ill Crag. I carried on down to Esk Hause and then on past Angle Tarn and down Rossett Gill, by which point I was getting tired so I stopped for a bit of a rest in the sun.

A useful sign, but as I've only ever come down this way, rather than up, I've not needed it.

It was a beautiful day, and I am reminded once again, that I live in the most beautiful part of the world
