Skoki Lodge is a classic back country ski tour. My friend Val has done it many times and I had always fancied it. This time I was in Canada with Arend, who is a very strong skier plus we had the benefit of Everett’s advice (plus borrowed cross country skis from Lucille and prepared to perfection by Everett).

Here we are on the steep ascent up Deception Pass. I wondered why it got that name, now I know!

Thankfully we reached the top. Cold with added strong wind-chill, minus I don’t know what.

Now its downhill for 4Km to the Lodge. But its not straightforward, with narrow tracks through trees and tree roots to contend with, not enough width for snowplough.

Now Amy approaches Skoki…

Next morning, we set off early for the long ski out, which was to be more challenging than the ski in! I found it very hard going on cross country skis – Arend was using AT skis.

Mercifully, we reached the end in reasonable time. Arend was still not tired enough, so he skied some downhill at Lake Louise resort!

Finally, I was advised by Dad that I couldn’t post on the blog without a cake-shot, so here it is… From Laggans, as you might guess!

But, seriously, I would recommend this route to anybody who can ski intermediate in the back country – be warned though, it don’t come cheap!!
