When I went on a narrow boat I had visions of sipping gin & tonic on deck – disappointingly, it was freezing, hailed, and I had to wear the thermal vest I had accidentally packed. Proper fire inside sounds good!
Similarly, when I went on a narrow boat once, one of the other ‘crew’ decided he’d had enough of the rest of us, and slept on the canal-side, in a tent, in the snow! Not for everyone!

Yes, it was really cold on the back of the boat, so I’m glad I had it! Inside the boat we had a roaring coal fire, which was very nice
