Paddling down the Lune

What a fab evening – joining 5 others from Sedbergh & District Canoe Club on a trip from Halton (close to Jnc 34 of the M6) down the Lune, through Lancaster and down to Glasson Dock.

A bit of transport juggling to get cars at both ends got us eventually on the water at 7.10 pm. I was in my canadian canoe with Mike Hinson, while the others had a combination of sea kayaks or play boats. Those in play boats found the flat water a bit hard, while the others paddled downstream with the tide and took in the wildlife and scenery.

We spotted a Kingfisher, probably a hundred Heron, Curlews, Oyster Catchers, loads of Swans, ducks, Grebe and many others.

At the Golden Ball pub on the Lune we dropped off two of the team so that the others could get to the cars at Glasson Dock before the sun went down.

Pippa came too, loved it, and I think was mentally tired from the amount of things she saw and the experience of being paddled along a river.

Well, we tried, the sun went down and eventually we got to Glasson Dock at 10.00 pm. We had travelled about 8.5 miles in just under 3 hours. A great evenings paddle, finished off with a pint in the Golden Ball.

Landed back home just after midnight.

We’re off next wednesday too. Hopefully down the Kent.

Sorry no photos. Perhaps next time.
