Bowfell

Friday’s weather in the Lakes was wall-to-wall sunshine and roasting heat (28°C), but as usual on a weekday we were unable to make the most of it due to work! 🙁 (Did I mention that work sucks?) Anyway, we’d hoped for similar weather on Saturday so we headed high – Bowfell Buttress – two hours of steep uphill slogging. Unfortunately as each minute passed the day became more and more overcast, and with each metre of height gained the breeze became stronger. In short, it was quite cold at the base of Bowfell Buttress at 750m. Result, the planned E2 (Bowfell Buttress Eliminate) was swiftly downgraded to the HVS Wooly Jumper

    1. I rarely, if ever, carry slings over my shoulder – preferring to carry them looped through a carabiner on my harness. That is unless I can see (or know) there is a need for one on the pitch. It’s just a personal preference. Some people I know use a bandolier to carry all their gear over their shoulder… Something I could never do as I find they get in the way of seeing my feet.
