Google Mapping Notes
The Google Mapping control (right) provides a mechanism to pan the map up, down, left, and right. This may also be done by dragging the map.
- The man icon is shown in orange when there is Street View data available for the area shown on the map.
- The vertical slider provides a mechanism to zoom in and out. Zooming in to a closer view may also be achieved by double-clicking an area of the shown map, the map will also be centred on the point double-clicked.
- Hold down the Shift key while dragging out an area on the map will zoom to show that area.
The type of map shown can be changed by clicking the Map or Satellite buttons top right of the map (example right). Satellite provides for the greatest level of zoom and visual location of actual features on the ground, while under the Map mode the Terrain option helps show relief best by displaying contours.
Marker Notes
- Multiple venues are grouped
at any given level of zoom to de-clutter the display; the numbered circles indicate how many venues are grouped.
The example given right shows 57 grouped venues, click the group to zoom in. The colour of the circle also indicates how many venues are grouped; 'hotter' colours indicate larger groups.
- Clicking a marker group will zoom to a level where those grouped markers are ungrouped. Although it is possible that some will still be grouped, click them to zoom further. This will also centre the map at the new zoom level.
- Individual posts, posts with GPX track data, and venues are shown with a range of markers such as:

, back to the adventure map:
- When location data is available a Show this location link displays the map with that post or venue centered and zoomed in to view.
- The Show all locations link displays the map with all locations in view.
- Clicking a marker will show a summary information popup for that venue or post. The popup will include a hyper-link to the report page. Also, if a country has been attributed to the report, a flag icon will be shown. The flag icon is a hyper-link to all reports from that country.
