Ian, Anna, Andy and Sabiene snatched a gap in the weather to dash to Shepherds for tea at the caff and a quick route.
Ian, Anna, Andy and Sabiene braved overcast skies and headed for the South crag on Castle Rock for a pootle about on some easy routes.
The gang (pictured by Laetitia above; Pete, Anna, Paul and Ian, accompanied by Kelda, Ian's border collie) headed off to Longsledale for quite a long (16 mile) mountain bike ride this past weekend.
Only 5 minutes from home, and the map comes out for the first time. Probably why Pete told us the ride would take 2 hours. It might have done if we'd done the 2 hour route!
We had planned to go to Gimmer today, but like so many a 'plan A', it was changed last minute to White Ghyll (picture right). The reason; although sunny and warm we decided it was too windy to be up high in Langdale. It was a wise choice as the wind was bitingly cold!
Scout Scar is a new location for us, surprising as it's the closest crag to our home. With easy access from Kendal, a super short walk in (just ten minutes), and amazing views of Morecombe Bay, Kentmere and the central fells - a top spot.
Is there a better way to end a work day than a trip to Borrowdale (despite the long drive from the South) to grab a route and a beer?
The BBC spends a lot of money (our license fees) on weather forecasting!
Having followed Pete all the way up to the only crag in the Lakes where it rained in July, we'd at least hoped he knew the way.
