Sunday dawned dry – a bonus, it was supposed to rain! But with a forecast for rain from the south around lunch time we opted for a trip to Paul’s local crag, Wharncliffe…
We just had time (with all my faffing on our last route) for two routes before the rain. The first, Trapeze, had a fantastic finish up the steep upper wall. Then Great Buttress Arete, which was quite damp (thus the faffing), making us certain Chris Craggs has it wrong and it should keep its E2 status.

Another Mega Smile from Paul

The second picture looks more like a gravel path than a climb, which i suppose is the reason Paul is smiling?
I’m also concerned that Paul wasn’t roped up and wearing a helmet with all that loose rock around!
Doh!
) that this is an old railway line we crossed near Wharncliffe. What was it called again Paul?
I just thought it was a nice pitcure! I should have explained ( to stop crazy people posting daft comments
Transpennine trail direction Manchester. Narrow gauge of course!
Thank you for clarifying the situation. Many apologies.
