A Good Night for an Accident

Although he is not a druid, John always celebrates the longest day, by arranging a walk and a camp. Last year was very wet and Andy and I expected it to be wet this year so we just went along for the walk. Five of us plus Muffin the poodle and most of Keswick Mountain Rescue Team scrambled up Sharp Edge (actually Muffin got carried up the scramle). The MRT practised where to find the belays for the several rescues they carry out annually at this spot, whilst we did our best not to provide them with business. I did try to book a ride down on the stretcher but sadly I ended up walking as usual. Andy and I left the others with their beer (cooled to perfection in Scales Tarn) and made it back without a single drop of rain to mar the evening.

  1. Muffin is the white poodle belonging to John (which is why it was he who carried it up the steep bits); the black poodle is in fact hair.
