Black Darter Dragonfly
While Laetitia and I were are Warton Quarry today I got a chance to get really close to and photograph this Black Darter (Sympetrum danae) dragonfly.
Well, I’m pretty sure it’s a Black Darter – I’m no dragonfly expert!
Correction; it’s a Common Darter, see comments below…

After a bit more research (check out this awesome dragonfly site) I think it is actually a female Common Darter!
Is it on the whole crag in the picture????? It must be a real monster; wingspan 50 metres
Nice shot; it is a female Common Darter. They are probably breeding in the pools at the quarry.
