I wanted a relatively short walk today as well as something local(ish).
I’ve passed Great Mell Fell and Little Mell Fell so many times whilst driving along the A66 and thought it was time to pay them a visit.
They’re both easy to get to and not very high. Perfect for today, and considering the high winds and showery day they were ideal.
Not much to say, apart from both are pleasant Wainwrights.
There were some fine views to be had.
After these it seemed a shame to go home early so I checked the map and decided to visit Gowbarrow Fell, easily approached from the free car parks above Aira Force near Dockray.
It was time to head home and have tea and cake in the conservatory.

Great picture of Ullswater Dave!
And your first picture (another great one, although it must be windy there as all the trees seem to be leaning in a uniform direction?) looks like a glimpse of somewhere foreign, the US maybe? Can’t help thinking it might be even better with some of the grassy foreground cropped though…

The first picture is Great Mell Fell, not far from the summit. It’s fab up there. A nice place for a picnic on a summers day. But there are no crags Pete so you probably won’t go there

Well it just goes to show that Cumbria has some interesting places, and because it’s a small lump on it’s own, not many go there.
