Tuesday, and perfect weather in Keswick for the afternoon of ropework at the Expedition Medicine course at Barrow House. The course is run twice a year and is the training course for doctors going on expeditions around the world. The course covers all aspects of emergencies that may arise…… from altitude sickness to snake bites and on the spot dentistry.

I was involved in the navigation and safety on steep ground and we had a good afternoon on the fells above Walla crag. The local MRT help out during the week as does the Great North Air Ambulance.

Extraction of casualty from Anna’s landrover!!!

In the evening was the Rupert Bennett Memorial lecture; this year it was Andy Cave with his life story “Learning to Breathe”. Fantastic!! What the sixty or so doctors made of him I’m not sure, but we really enjoyed it.
