After a lot of work, the CC finally opened its first hut in the Lakes. As Anna is the new numero uno, head honcho, big cheese, (custodian), we headed to the hut not knowing quite how many members might be there.

Mid afternoon the place was empty, with only Dave fitting the new lock. We headed over the road to Black Crag to grab a route before the bbq started. The hut is ideally positioned within walking distance of 6 crags, all with classic routes of all grades. Within 15 mins we were at the foot of the crag.

We chose Troutdale Pinnacle Direct, and surprisingly had the crag to ourselves.

By the time we returned to the hut it was heaving. Committee members, CC VIPs, and loads of locals had turned up for the opening do…. Four hours later, many of the villagers had gone home fuly lubricated and happy with the new arrangement. The CC members, equally happy, continued to party.
Ken Wilson could be heard late into the small hours leading an animated discussion as to whether climbing walls are the end of traditional cragging. I sneaked off to my sleeping bag.

The hut is perfectly positioned and must be used…………….

Fantastic! Looks like a great turn out.
Did anyone comment on the (lack of) quality of the new kitchen floor tiles?

Looks like we missed an excellent party. Glad there were loads of people there, and no rain - amazing!

Hey Anna, do you recognise the National Geographic fleece worn by Trevor?
Did you make the same “compliment” you made for my freebie?
