To Alleppey

Leaving the spice plantation behind us, we started the journey toward Allepey.

The smells were still amazing, with drying cardamon wafting through the air.

Monday’s 47km ride was quiet, due to a general strike, but we still had a bit of an incident, where it was proved that two cars and a bike simply do not all fit on the narrow road. Unfortunately, for the car, it landed in the ditch. But fortunately the whole community came out to pull it out of the ditch.

That night we stopped in the Greenberg resort, Kulamavu, which was shrouded in cloud.

The next day, Tuesday, our 50km ride became very hotter and hotter as we headed to Alleppey, but we were fortified with Toddy, a slightly alcoholic drink made for palm flowers.

Our first night in Alleppey was a home stay, at the wonderful Kurialacherry House.

And the next day, Wednesday, we spent a couple of hours kayaking.

And then on to a House Boat for the night. It turn out we had it all to ourselves with thee staff! What total luxury. The hum of the engine was sending me off to sleep, but I was determined to stay awake and soak it all in.
