A very wet day around Troutbeck

I’d opted for a more gentle walk today considering the weather. But…..it got a bit out of hand!

I parked opposite the Limefitt log cabin park in Troutbeck and headed up the fell-side and passed through the quarries above. We got to the top of Sour Howes – you’ll have to take my word for it that this is the summit.

Contouring around the fell wall to Sallows was getting difficult in the rain as my glasses were steaming up.

We got to the summit (again, you’ll have to believe me) cairn (not the biggest in the world).

And then I wasn’t sure what to do. I was considering returning to the car, but I opted for a continuation towards The Tongue but the direct route I took headed straight to a farmer rebuilding a wall and thought he might not appreciate our company. We took a detour which turned out to be a long route around and ended up on the top of Yoke, then around and down to the quarries at the foot of Yoke.

A short ascent and descent of The Tongue before heading back to the car.

We were soaked. I don’t think any part of me was dry. I’d given up hopping over puddles and just walked through the flooded streams and paths. Perhaps tomorrow we’ll have a rest day?!?
