The Rab mountain marathon this year began from Bampton in the eastern Lakes. Unfortunately I wasn’t feeling particularly on form and hence both days were a bit of a trial (for me and for Richard, given my moans). Nevertheless, we kept going, partly so that we could try out the new 850 g tent. Unfortunately we managed to pitch it on the coldest, most uncomfortable piece of field imaginable, so the night was long and tiresome. Anyway, we got around and came a respectable second. Although, because we had previously won the prize that was being offered for second place, we swopped prizes with the third place team and hence came away with very lovely sets of hats and gloves.

“One to forget”? Second and wanting to forget the event? A measure of your high expectations, or just a reflection how bad your night’s sleep was?
Looks like a new Laser Competition tent?
Richard doesn’t look too happy in the photos.
Oh well. I suppose there has to be a not so great event sometimes to make the good events even better. On the positive side, no injuries, and hats and gloves all round.

2nd mixed team, but only 12th overall. Room for improvement.
I’d do a map of where we went, but it’s a bit too complicated to sort out from here (I’m in Sweden) so you’ll have to wait for that…

I would have tent jealousy too, but I’ve managed to borrow one for a few weekends time. Big fan of the pegs – they’re ridiculous.
Where was the overnight camp btw?
It was in Martindale. I think it was quite picturesque, but I wouldn’t know as I was hiding in my sleeping bag. Cancelled all my plans for this weekend in hope of recovery.
