Over the last three weeks its been all action at Halley to get the base finally finished so that the 14 winterers are able to stay in the base. As all the services gradually came online, the base 13 miles away at Halley 5 was abandoned and the surgery, comms and garage were moved up to Halley 6.

There was still some time for leisure and we had the Half Marathon from the old base to the new base. I decided to ski it this year, as a way of checking that my touring boots were going to be comfortable for the season. I was pleased to finish in about three hours, into a strong headwind. (only two of us skied).

That done, it was just a matter of putting the finishing touches to the base, head for the ship moored at the edge of the sea ice, and sail for the Falklands.
