Water based sports (sailing, boating, water skiing, etc.).
I got myself booked in the Great North Swim quite late this year. There weren’t many slots left available but 3pm Saturday afternoon was a reasonable time.
I’m just back from a week on a CC meet in Scotland based on a sail boat. The aim being to sail to some Scottish islands and sample the rock climbing using the boat as our accommodation…
Last year I started open water swimming and I had the crazy idea to enter the Great North Swim.
We’ve been looking forward to the multi-day canoeing trip in Scotland with our friends Paul and Lisa for ages. We’d planned the trip back in February and this past weekend we finally set off on our new adventure.
Despite the less than perfect forecast this past weekend was a particularly busy one with loads of diverse activities including: an introduction to open water swimming, enjoying excellent company and great food at the SMC meet at RLH in Langdale, scrambling in the rain on Pavey Ark, and the launch of the new Langdale guidebook. …
The weather forecast for the bank holiday weekend was quite variable. But that – as usual – seemed to just be the forecasters generalising for the rest of us what those in the south-east would experience! Whereas the north-west looked like it would have great summer weather. On a bank holiday!!
After talking to Paul about how much fun our sea-kayaking trip had been he promised me he could teach me to roll a kayak, thereby helping alleviate some of my fear of taking the sport any further.
As last summer was so wet, I thought this summer, which is bound to be just as wet, I would take advantage of the many lakes on my doorstep and do some open water swimming.
I’ve thought about a climbing adventure to Thailand for years, but I’ve always been a bit nervous about taking the trip. I’d heard it was hot, hard, and getting more and more touristy, but I’d also heard it’s amazing, beautiful, and the Thai people are lovely … “the land of a thousand smiles”.
