On a day with weather from all seasons, we headed to Lacy’s Caves on the banks of the River Eden between Kirkoswald and Little Salkeld. It was an opportunity to stretch our legs and walk off a few beers. The night before, we had seen Atonement in Ainstable village hall and a few beers in one of the locals in Armathwaite.
Lacy’s Caves are a bit unusual, and I’ll let you find out for yourself.
We then wandered into the woods and stumbled across some old gypsum mines (Long Meg Mine) and plateways. Lindy took a shine to a chimney on an old building.
After our walk we visited The Watermill at Little Salkeld for a spot of lunch and drinks. It’s fab place that serves wholesome food, and their own flour.
Then it was onto Long Meg and her daughters, a standing stone and a big stone circle.

It was strange weather wasn’t it – April (snow) showers!
We did managed some gardening – but got too cold, so gave up after the essential bits were done and had some more of the strawberry cake! 
Did you notice the patterns on Long Meg?
I did, there are 2 cup and ring marks on the bottom of Long Meg and I have some pictures. I visited Long Meg for the first time in 2000. It’s a lovely spot.
