I saw this slithering across our lawn this morning and thought I’d share…
Slow Worms – they’re not very slow and they’re not worms.
But they are pretty cool when you find one just taking it’s time crossing the lawn. I think this one was a female. It had very dark sides and a thin line down the back. Maybe she was looking for somewhere to give birth…?
I watched it for a bit until it reached the bushes, making sure it wasn’t going to be a little feast for the neighbour’s cats.

Was there any evidence to suggest that “she” was about to give birth?
Wow, amazing! So how close were you? Piccy no 1 looks scarily close (well, it would be scary if it was a king cobra).
Apparently they can live for 30 years in the wild! How long was it? Wikipedia also said they grow to 50 cm ….
This one was about 30cm long. I was really close – I stroked it. But the first picture is a zoom. It seemed happy enough to slither straight towards me at one point.
It didn’t look pregnant – no fat lumps. If I’d seen fat lump I might have thought it was it’s dinner – a fat slug.
I forgot to add… I mentioned the looking for somewhere to give birth bit because apparently September is the time they give birth.
