Bell Stand, Eskdale

We wanted to go somewhere new today. So we settled for a trip to the granite outcrops of Eskdale. First on the hit list was Bell Stand. We had the crag to ourselves and could see the Eskdale show, the hound trail even tore past while we had a sandwich. Laetitia did a great job on a lovely VS, Plumbline, then we ticked off the harder Anniversary Waltz before moving on to Beckfoot Quarry. That was our mistake! We went from a sunny and solid granite outcrop to a dank and overgrown quarry, probably best left to return to nature… In fact I’m sure monsters are already living in the swamp area at the centre of the quarry! As for the climbing – awful! Check out this picture of a bolt on one of the routes (look carefully, it is there nestling in with the moss!)…
