• Pete on Curving Crack just after the difficult first bulge.

Twistleton

This is it, this is summer. We better get out climbing before it goes away.

The temperatures were set to soar, but Pete hurt his ankle running for the train in Carlisle. That meant very short walk-ins were required. We decided to go to Twistleton, knowing it would be in full sun for nearly the whole day and we’d get to the bottom of the crag in less that 15 minutes.

By the time we got there it was quite busy with a few groups with some top-ropes set up. Luckily they weren’t hogging the classics.

We headed straight for Curving Crack. Phew, it’s a hard VS 5a, and I was only seconding.

Then I tackled Breakaway, which was a great little 4b.

Unfortunately, after two routes, Pete’s ankle was mullered! We decided to make a sensible retreat back to the car and then home … it was, after-all, getting close to Pimms o’clock time!

  1. well done for making the most of the sun!! 🙂 looks like colder weather is on the way…………. :freeze: :freeze: is that the end of summer after only 1 day????

    1. I had to check on Google if “mullered” was right. The Urban Dictionary says, “Broken, smashed or beaten up to the point of being visibly altered, unusable or non-functional.” It also says “Intoxicated with drink or drugs”… which was us after the very strong Pimms. 😉

  2. Looks like a great place, I put it on my wish-list as it has quite a few easier routes suitable even for me! :star: Confined to bed by some malicious flu virus  , I almost finished reading the whole site today! Laughed out loud when I got to the story of the flying Salomon approach shoes, the poor snail and the girlish squeak. 😆 😆 😆 And more importantly, filled my (extremely long) wish-list with all the great venues you reported on. Now my problem is that I should actually move to England not only go for a week’s holiday if I want to visit them all! 😐
