We woke up to summer.
The Lakes was going to be busy today. The Windermere marathon, the Keswick Mountain Festival and lots and lots of visitors, so we headed east to some Yorkshire Limestone.
We decided on some bolt clipping at Robin Proctor’s Scar. It’s such a lovely venue, easy access, great views and as usual, fairly quiet. It wasn’t as sunny in the east but it was still warm enough. There were only 2 other teams for most of the day, with another team joining late in the afternoon, and we all hung around the central area taking it in turns to cover the classics: Wheels on Fire, The Shield, Tombstone Blues, Subterranean Homesick Blues, and the easier Dr Frank(enstein)’s Nightmare and Just Cruisin, Living the Dream.

The vague memorial to a person who fell over the crag in 1893 - just near the start of Tombstone Blues.

Pete on the crux of The Shield.

We had a good day, but didn’t stay too late. We had to get back to eat…

... some mini chocolate cakes!!!!!!

In both the pictures it looks like the holds are upside down
Are you sure you weren’t standing on your head to take the pictures
Can’t have been – the text in the first picture is the right way up
I wonder if this tale is true?
If it isn’t a rural myth, I wonder why the initials in the carving are “RW”?
Yay climbing in the sunshine and cakes, what could be better
