Climbing with Laurence

We finally managed to sort out a date to visit Laurence in Sheffield. He’s already half ay through his second year, so it was about time!

The forecast was for sun, so without asking Laurence what he wanted to do, we decided we simply had to go climbing. But instead of the many grit stone crags that were close by, Pete chose a a little limestone number in Dovedale.

We should have realised of course, that the sunny weather would bring out the tourists, and Dovedale is a very popular tourist destination. The valley was absolutely heaving, I’d never seen it so busy. But that was ok, there was ample parking in the overflow field, not bad for £2 I think, and it’s great that so many people were enjoying the beautiful early spring weather.

The crag itself was empty. We chose Ten Craters of Wisdom on Tissington Spires.

One climb was enough, so we wandered over to Dove Holes before turning round and heading back to the car.

The Stepping Stones at Dovedale always draw a crowd, but by the time we got here on the way back to the car the crowd had already moved on.

When we got back to Sheffield we did what all students do on a Saturday night – had a curry and drank beer. We were joined by Rich Wheeldon in the pub.

    1. Yes, it no longer works with modern browser’s that try to stop Facebook snooping on your browsing history so they can monetise or politicise your data (think Cambridge Analytica). However, the “Share” button should still work? It’s very similar…
