Northumberland

We recently spent a few days in Northumberland … what a beautiful part of the world!

We started off with a slightly damp afternoon after we’d driven across from Cumbria. So a short walk to St Cuthbert’s Cave was our first outing…

The next day, our first full day, we had planned to walk the Pilgrim’s Way across the sands to Lindisfarne. We certainly had brilliant weather for it! Walking in bare feet of course (well kinda, I had wetsuit socks). We fairly marched out and back to beat the rides … and save ourselves the cost of a taxi back! One word of caution – at first, just after low tide makes a crossing on foot possible, the sands are quite soft. But once the sands have properly drained they become hard – rock hard – and so you are effectively walking bare-foot on rock for a long time. My feet were knackered by the time we’d finished. 😉

An evening celebration on the beach with sparkles!

The next day we visited Bamburgh Castle. What a great place. Recommended!
