Eclipse

You’ll have been bored to death most probably by all the articles on the BBC etc. about the eclipse, how to not damage your eyes, how to tell if you have damaged your eyes, etc etc!! But hey ho, it was a noteworthy event… Reston Scar above Staveley is most often deserted, or maybe there’s one other dog-walker thereabouts. However, for the eclipse the tiny summit was crowded with all sorts of people enjoying the vibe.

We hadn’t really prepared appropriately for the event and had no way to observe the eclipse. So, I spent 5 minutes cutting some cardboard and punching pin holes of differing sizes in the card to fashion my own pinhole camera. It worked quite well as you can see below.

But the gathering of people on the hill were so sociable there was plenty of opportunity to see the phenomena better. One man was walking around offering the use of his eclipse glasses. Plus, he helped us take a photo with our phone through one of the lenses of those glasses (above).
