Simple WordPress Twitter Plugin

This plug-in provides a very simple, transparent, and automatic way to have your blog tweet new posts to your Twitter account, letting all your followers know you’ve just posted something new, or updated something, on your blog.

:star: Now updated to support Twitter’s OAuth authentication. :star:
[Note, this version of the plug-in requires that your environment uses PHP 5.2 or later.]

New; this plug-in provides support to have your Twitter status updates shown on your blog too. You’ll need one of my other free plug-ins, Notices. With this you can have a sidebar widget or a display of your own configuration show your status updates.

I’ve written quite a few WordPress plug-ins, check out these other WordPress plug-ins here. Many of these are quite popular! However, I get masses of requests to help people set them up, which generally I’m very happy to do. However, for this plug-in I’m trying something new, I’m asking for a super-small fee (just £2.50) for each download. For that, you’ll get the plug-in of course, but you’ll also get the support you need to set the plug-in up on your standard WordPress self-hosted blog. It’ll help if you already have your Twitter account set-up.

The small fee does not allow for any customisation of the plug-in, extra features, resolution of clashes with other WordPress plug-ins or themes, etc. So, let me know if you want those and we can talk about what to do. It does include bona fide bug fixes though; find something wrong with the plug-in, or it simply won’t work for you, and I’ll either fix it, or in a few cases (for example, where a non-standard WordPress installation stops it working) I’ll give you your money back. Can’t be fairer than that. It’s a no lose deal.

  • Click on the Buy Now button above and buy the plug-in via PayPal. Then be patient, PayPal will e-mail me and I will get straight back to you with a download link and simple instructions…
  • Those instructions will describe how to put the plug-in into your WordPress plug-in directory and activate it.
  • Next, you’ll go to your Settings » Twitter on Publish page and configure the plugin. There are instructions on the plug-in’s options page to setup your own Twitter application and obtain OAuth access tokens etc.
  • That’s it, you’ll be up and running.
  • There are a couple of options you might explore later, these are:
    • Tweeting for individual posts can be disabled.
    • If you have my Country plug-in, you can add the country attribute to the tweet. For example, I write blog posts and mark them with the country the event occurred in – the tweet can also include that country.
    • You may want to disable the TinyURL filtering and use Twitter’s normal URL replacement. What’s that all about? The instructions will explain…
